Covid-19 Policy Message from the Session of The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township
March 8, 2022
Greetings to our church family!
At our Session gathering last night we voted to adopt the CDC mask guidelines for Morris County as our measuring reference for our church mask-wearing policy. These guidelines indicate that we are currently in a “low” risk of transmission phase, meaning that masks may be worn optionally but need not be required indoors, even in congregant settings.
As a result, masks will no longer be required in our Sanctuary during church services. We will no longer require social distancing in the Sanctuary or in any of our meeting rooms. People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask whenever they leave home. We continue to encourage vaccinations for all eligible age groups to keep everyone as safe as possible from infection and transmission.
Our Sanctuary choir and children’s choir will continue to wear masks while singing in worship until advised otherwise by our Director of Music.
We are grateful for your patience over these last two years of precautionary measures that we have had to implement for the safety of all, especially our most vulnerable. We continue to watch out for the protection of our neighbors and respect each person’s decision to mask when they feel most comfortable doing so. As Session, your governing body, we will continue to monitor the CDC measurement of the infection rates in our area and will advise you of any changes that arise over time. We are hopeful, however, that with the warming weather and the spring season ahead, we will have a long run of safe conditions for worshipping together with a “mask optional policy.”
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dr. Ellen Clémot, Moderator Maury Gately, Clerk of Session (non-voting)
