Join a talk given by two friends and pastors who are committed to the practice of refugee welcome in our area. They will present a zoom and in-person talk on the topic of refugee welcome: moral ethics, law, and practice, on Tuesday evening, June 21, 2022, at 7:30 pm in the social hall of the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township at 240 Southern Boulevard. Zoom participants can access the zoom link for the event by contacting the PCCT office at (973) 635-2340.
Julie Yarborough, a leader in the refugee welcome group “One World, One Love” and a pastor at the United Church of Christ in Summit, and Ellen Clémot, a lawyer and author of Discerning Welcome, who is the senior pastor at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, will talk about today’s refugee crisis and ways of understanding and welcoming refugees from Ukraine, Afghanistan, and beyond.
Dr. Clémot’s book Discerning Welcome was published in March of this year and addresses the morality of border walls, the laws of citizen and resident alien, refugee, and stateless persons, and practical applications of welcome of newcomers joining the community. Rev. Yarborough has spent more than two decades serving as pastor to Christ Church and since 2017 has volunteered with the One World One Love not-for-profit organization, and currently serves on their board and as the Co-Coordinator of Basic Needs. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information, contact: Ceri Gilpin, firstname.lastname@example.org, (973) 635-2340.
