Our robust music program features vocal and bell choirs for children, youth, and adult rehearsing regularly from September to May (Adult choirs are on Thursday evenings). And here’s the thing about participating in our ensembles: you may feel that your musical ability is nowhere near where you would ever be able to sing or play a solo in front of our congregation. That doesn’t matter.
What does matter is a love of music and a willingness to create together a sound so much richer and more beautiful and diverse than any one soloist could ever muster. As a member of our chancel choir, you may sing Handel with a 20-piece chamber orchestra or a modern piece written by a contemporary composer. Members of the Sanctuary Ringers and Youth Bells explore their musical gifts on five octaves of handbells – anything from “Simple Gifts” to a contemplative arrangement of a classical hymn.
And through music, our children have the opportunity to explore their creativity too. Associate Director of Music Janice Williams leads our Psalm Singers and Joy Ringers (chimes and bells) with fun, challenging, and educational rehearsals on weekday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Both groups sing and ring in worship throughout the year, often times in collaboration with our high school or adult musicians. Music helps our children gain confidence as well as participate and feel a sense of belonging to our church.
Making music together is one of the most rewarding, engaging, relaxing and fulfilling experiences you can have. It costs nothing, except an hour or so of your time a week. There are no auditions and no solos (unless you really want one!!) What are you waiting for?
In addition to groups for our congregation, PCCT is home to Lyrica Chamber Music.
